Service Information

“Marumali is a service available to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders. The name comes from the Aboriginal Kamilaroi dialect which means “to heal”. The purpose of the program is to assist in elevating the current health status of the indigenous people in our communities. We aim to do this by making GP’s and Allied Health professional services more appealing to indigenous people living in our community. Marumali aims to do this by:

·         Providing GP’s and Allied Health Professional’s   with some cultural specific training
·         Promoting their businesses to our indigenous clients
·         Increasing the confidence of indigenous clients to access further specialised care
(as referred by their GP)
·         Promoting pharmaceutical benefits to our clients

Marumali is an OATSIH funded program. Our aim is to complement the current services that are available to indigenous people throughout the south western areas of Sydney.”

Purpose
To significantly improve and sustain the health of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people by creating an opportunity to access culturally appropriate health services (public or private) and health resources, confidently without a fear of being discriminated against for economic or cultural reasons.
